Family-Placed Obituary
GOLDBERG, Jack 81 of Beavercreek,
died March 8, 2008 in the loving arms
of his wife. Born June 21, 1926,
Columbus, OH., also lived in Newark
and Springfield, bar mitzvahed at the
small synagogue above the Midland
Theater in Newark, and graduated
from Springfield High School. Jack is
survived by his wife Lois; daughters
Vinnie Warr and Rod of DE, Susan
Davis and Allen of Kettering; sons
Stuart and Rebeca of FL., Lance and
Tina of NC; step-daughter Trudy
Nguyen and her mother Ha Goldberg
of San Francisco; brothers Harold and
Peggy of Dayton, Morris and Kathleen
of Dayton; sisters Shirley Levin of
Cleveland, Sandra Davis of SC;
grandchildren Bryan D. Jacobs,
Heather S. Warr, Jay B. Goldberg,
Robin J. Goldberg; step-grandsons
Cameron Chang and Michael Chang;
great-grandchildren Andrew Walsh
and Rebekkah Jacobs, and preceded in
death by parents Bertha Levin
Goldberg and Samuel Goldberg,
brother A.B. Benny Goldberg, and first
wife Betty Leonard. He began US civil
service at Wright-Patterson AFB in
1943 as an assistant messenger and
retired in 1981 as branch chief, Air
Material Command. From Jan. 1973 to
April 1975, he was assigned as an AF
civilian with the Air Force Division,
Defense Attache' Office, Saigon,
Vietnam, responsible for the
contractor training program of 2200
personnel. He served with the US
Navy during WWII, 1944-1946 and
was promoted to Yeoman 2nd Class
within 15 months of service. Assigned
at CINCPAC-POA at Pearl Harbor, Jack
was one of the 17 yeomen assigned to
Admiral Nimitz's flag allowance,
serving as Petty-Officer-in-Charge
Pacific Fleet Intelligence office. Later
recalled to active duty from 1950-
1951 during the Korean conflict, he
served at Naval Station Adak, Aleutian
Islands, as Yeoman-in- Charge, Office
of the Port Director. Jack was an
active member of Post 587 Jewish War
Veterans. A long time member of
Toastmasters International, Fairborn
Club 896, he served twice in each club
office, was Governor, Area 6, and
Educational Lieutenant Governor,
District 40. He won several speech
contests and was invited to deliver the
educational key note address at the
Toastmasters International
convention, San Francisco, 1966.
Owner/operator of The Camera Clinic,
a photographic equipment repair firm
since 1969, Jack served as president
of the Tri-State Chapter of the Society
of Photographic Technicians (SPT) and
as board member of SPT
International. He served on the board
and as secretary of the National
Association of Photo Equipment
Technicians (NAPET), held two terms
as Territorial Vice President, Photo
Marketing Assn. International (PMA).
A long time member of Temple Israel
of Dayton, serving for several years as
president of Temple Brotherhood, as
member of Temple Board, and was an
active member of the No-Name
Chavurah. Funeral service will be held
Thursday 12 noon at Temple Israel,
130 Riverside Drive with Rabbi Sofian
officiating. Jack's wishes were
